Altium Universal JTAG Adapter
The DT05 is the fastest and most widely used USB JTAG interface, used for FPGA and Embedded Debug with Altium tools. It uses a module internally - originally designated MB0034 (ModuleBoard 34) - which is mounted on the main PCB as a castellated module. In 2011/12 Altium had a hardware team that was designing a series of these small modules for various commonly needed functions, and this one was for JTAG based FPGA and embedded microcontroller debug. The MB0034 is open-sourced also in this CircuitMaker community in a separate project called the USB FT2232HQ JTAG DEBUG INTERFACE. The MB0034 module takes care of the FT2232HQ USB-to-Serial bridge and supporting components, and the base board in this design simply breaks out to USB and micro-HDMI connectors, as well as driving the indicator LEDs, and providing some decoupling.
There is a fork of this project for a newer, more user-friendly open-source "Altium JTAG Adapter" which has normal headers and other proper features, the Altium Open JTAG 6.
The electronics design for this adapter is completely open source under CC-BY licensing, however the design of the mechanical enclosure and cables is not. Altium still has stock of the cable packs for this design, if anyone's interested, call us and we can send you one.
This was originally designed in Altium Designer in 2011/12 by the now disbanded Altium Hardware Team. It has been mass-produced and distrubuted to several thousand users.
The real inner workings of this JTAG adapter are detailed on the USB FT2232HQ JTAG DEBUG INTERFACE page. Please see that project for more useful information.
See the "External Links" for more information on other resources related to this product. One particularly interesting thing is the TC2050-MINIHDMI cable set from Tag-Connect. This gives rapid "plug-of-nails" connectivity for miniaturization of the PCB (no header necessary) as well as a production-ready connection for factory programming and testing.
