DETAILED DESCRIPTION
I am starting to play with some ESP12-E WiFi Modules. I needed to hack together a protoboard with a level shifter and 3.3V regulator for the ESP module to communicate to the USB-Serial bridge using a CY7C65211, in this case I am reusing one from the Cypress PSOC4 Prototyping Kit (CY8KIT-042) .
If I could guarentee I was plugging into a 3.3V USB port, I would not need the shifter or regulator. But unfortunately I think just about all the USB ports on my PCs around the place have a 5V bus. Anyway, it's better to be safe than sorry.
After much messing about, reading the http://esp8266.com forums and vairous conflicting posts on other sites, I finally found the combination of wiring and Arduino IDE that works.
- The updated prototype schematic included.
- Arduino IDE 1.6.5 with ESP8266 extensions installed from Github.
