DETAILED DESCRIPTION
The USIM (Universal Supply Isolated Module) is a small 2-Watt power supply module intended for driving up to 100mA loads at 3.3V or 5V from a 3.3V or 5V primary. The module provides isolation by means of a miniature SMD transformer, driven by the SN6501 push-pull controller chip from Texas Instruments.
Having an isolated 5V supply is very handy and has many applications where you need to power digital devices that may connect to another higher voltage supply, or where a second floating supply is necessary.
Inspiration for this supply came about when I was working on an audio electronics design and wanted to separate the digital supply galvanically to assist in removing an earth loop hum problem.
