DETAILED DESCRIPTION
The Can Motor Drivers (CMDs) are the Nova Rover team's custor motor control PCBs designed for use to drive the chasis and arm motors. They are designed to be as modular as possible, with a single main board-to-board connector allowing the CMDs to be mated to a variety of motherboards such as the Chassis Distributor (CHAD) and Arm Wrist Hub. This modularity allowed us to concentrate our efforts on designing a single robust motor driver which can be used anywhere on the rover where we wish to use CANBUS to precisely control a brushed DC motor. The modular nature also improves the ability to preform rapid field repairs as a failed CMD can simply be removed from its motherboard and replaced
Capabilities
-
Onboard dsPic33 microcotroller to control the function of the board and enable high speed PID control of the connected motor.
-
Uses extremely robust surface mount mosfets. wth a low Rds(ON), 60v rating and a current rating of 286A!
-
A large 40x40mm heat sink to dissapate heat generated during long period of heavy loads.
-
Ability to communicate over CANBUS
-
Onboard 5v and 3.3v voltage regulation
-
Onboard diagnostic LEDs
-
Precision current sensing circuit to enable features like short circuit detection and current limit based PWM chopping. With the correct software implementation this can also be used to implement data logging or even constant current motor control.
-
Build in temperature sensor enabling implementaion of temperature limits, data logging and overtemp warning systems
