DETAILED DESCRIPTION
This project is a simple schematic and PCB containing a few of the most popular electronic component types.
It is by no measure comprehensive, but anyone getting started with electronics and OSHW is very likely to encounter the components (a.k.a. parts) on this schematic. Their matching footprints are on the PCB, and they have been chosen to show a variety of footprint technologies also from SMDs (Surface Mount Devices) and THTs (Through-Hole Technology) as well.
Given that there are an estimated 100-150 million unique manufacturer parts available in the supply chain (a more conservative estimate is about 30 million actively manufactured parts) obviously this is a microscopic view. The point is to use this project to discuss and learn about the most commonplace part types.
Here we have the main categories:
- Discrete Devices
- Passive discretes:
- Resistors
- Capacitors
- Inductors
- Diodes
- Active discretes
- Transistors
- Bipolar
- FET
- MOSFET
- 4-Layer Devices (Thyristors)
- TRIAC
- SCR
- Transistors
- Passive discretes:
- Integrated Circuits (ICs)
- Analog
- Operational Amplifier
- Digital
- Logic Gates (74' series)
- Microcontrollers
- Memory
- Analog
- Electro-Mechanical Devices
- Switches
- Connectors
There's a lot more to be added but this is a good starting point. For instance, we could add the 555 timer as an example of a "mixed analogue/digital" IC, and in the electro-mechanical section could add motors, transducers like microphones and speakers, etc. I did not add these as I wanted the size of the page and PCB to be limited so they could be printed on to a poster.
