DETAILED DESCRIPTION
This circuit generates about 400V at the output. It's a fairly mild shock, but should be a large enough shock to deter pets from sitting or standing where you don't want them to. You can attach wires to the outputs or connect it to a commercially-made pet shock mat.
R4 may not be necessary because of the low capacitance of C1 to C8 (0.1µF each) and the fact their voltage can't rise above 400V due to the 400V GDT. R1 does a good job of limiting the current througn Q1 and T1, and also limits the amount of energy that can be put into the capacitors before they get discharged through the GDT. I personally used a wire jumper in palce of R4, and the device works very well.
I have included links in the "External Links" section to the code on github I wrote and programmed onto the microcontroller U1, and a link to a shock mat on Amazon that I use with this device. I couldn't find just the mat, so the link shows the mat with the commercially-available shocker.
OBLIGATORY DISCLAIMER: This device generates high voltage. Use at your own risk. Although it's extremely unlikely that this device can cause any injuries, I'm not responsible for any injuries or deaths to pets or humans sustained as a result of using this device.
